The perfect fit

The key to the perfect fit is...

1: Measure twice and always in millimeters (mm).

2: Use a good quality tape measure & ask someone to help if you can.

3: If you are unsure, get a second opinion. When in comes to blinds, especially recess blinds, every mm counts!

4: Check for any obstructions that may protrude from your window frame and touch your new blinds.

5: Skirting boards! If your skirting board overlaps your window frame it may prevent your blind from being able to lower all the way to the ground. Take a deduction off the width of your blind to compensate.

6: For any windows over 3010mm in width, multiple blinds will be required. Please head to Final choices for more details if applicable.

Face fit

If you plan on fitting your blinds directly to your architrave you will need to take a width measurement from outside of architrave to outside of architrave (mm perfect). Make sure to take your measurement at the height where your blinds will be fitted as some windows are way out of square. Next measurement is the drop of your blind from the top architrave to the base of the window architrave or to the floor, whichever is relevant. Look for any obstructions that protrude out further than your architraves (eg. door hands, door frames etc). Feel free to call or email for advice on this one, but in most cases if there is an obstruction your blind would need to be over-rolled (meaning that the fabric falls from the front of the roll instead of the back of the roll).

Recess Fit

Measure your width from inside the reveal (recess) at the top of the recess from side to side in exact mm's. Having someone to hold the other end of the tape measure for this is advised. Measure the drop in the same fashion. Look for any obstructions that protrude into your recess (e.g. window stiles, winders etc). A minimum of 65mm depth is recommended at the top of your reveal (if depth is less than 65mm, please contact us for advice). If you have obstructions then over-rolling your blinds is the best way to go.

Remember with a recess fit blind, there will be a gap on either side of the fabric of approx 12mm (to allow for brackets & mechanisms). If you are light sensitive we recommend face fitting block out blinds for this reason. Screens work great in recesses, especially if you would like a screen & block out combination on the same window. This eliminates the need for double brackets and ensures that all blinds fit as neatly against your window as possible.

Corner windows

Corner windows require a bit more thought. Where you have 2 blinds intersecting, take the measurement of window 1 from outside of the arch to the corner of the architrave where the windows meet. Window 2 will need to be measured from the outside of the architrave to the corner of the architrave where the windows meet. To allow for the butt blind, You will then need to deduct 76mm from this blind for a single blind, or 120mm deduction would be required for a double blind. Make sure your chains are located away from the corner of the window.

Over rolling your blinds is the best way to go here for a neat finish & to minimize the gap in the corner where the blinds meet. Feel free to call or email to discuss.

Standard deductions

As a standard we make NO deduction of the width of your blinds for face fit measurements. We deduct 5mm off the width of your recess measurements to allow some room for error and to make removing the blinds easy. Idler mechanism pins can extend by 10mm to allow for the perfect fit.

* Please provide us with the exact width and drop, we will do the rest!

* We take no responsibility for incorrect measurements. A cut down service is available at a fee, but blinds cannot be stretched. Measure twice, install once!
